Queens Gallantry Medal EIIR Category_ Miniature Foreign Awards Represents the 1914–1919 First WorldInstituted on 20th June 1974 to reward acts of exemplary bravery. Although intended as primarily a civilian award it is more often awarded to Military personnel for actions where military decorations would not be appropriate. Awards of the gallantry emblem to the Order of the British Empire were ceased at this time with the intention that such acts would be rewarded with the QGM. To date just over 1000 awards have been made together with 18 bars.
