This design was selected from Bijutsukai, a collection of craft designs that was published in the Meiji era. (Late 1800s~early 1900s). The rhythmical arrangement of boats and flowers gives it fresh new life. It has "butterfly stopper" pen holders, which also function as a clasp to keep the cover shut.
